The Forest Inventory & Analysis Unit of the Southern Forest Experiment Station will be advertising a Biological Scientist position, GS-0401-07/09, permanent, full-time position. This notification is being circulated to inform prospective applicants that this position will be advertised shortly and to maximize diversity of the pool of candidates. The office for this position is located at the International Institute of Tropical Forestry (IITF) in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The position reports to a zone supervisor in the Southern Forest Experiment Station area in the southeastern part of the United States and works closely with the International Institute of Tropical Forestry personnel located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The position works with Forest Inventory & Analysis and IITF personnel conducting a continuous forest inventory on Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The incumbent also has the opportunity to get involved with occasional details with the International Forest section of the U.S. Forest Service. The incumbent works closely with the Puerto Rico analyst to keep him aware of the trends of the ecology and forests of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The position requires an applicant who is fluent in Spanish and English and who is physically fit to cover all of the working conditions in the mountains and mangrove swamps of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
